The Company is family-owned, and has dedicated over a hundred years to the production of wines, typical of the “Colli Orientali del Friuli” DOC area.
These days, the business is in the hands of Claudio, assisted by his wife Lorella and by his sons Niccolò and Aurora, under the watchful eye of father Elvio, and continues to produce excellent wines, fruit of the vineyards scattered throughout the territory of the Faedis municipality.
In the nineties, the company converted its very productive vocation, switching from a mix of livestock breeding and winemaking to the latter only. This led to a complete restructuring, with a thorough modernization of vineyards, countryside, equipment and cellar.
An imprint handed down from previous generations, traditional winemaking techniques were mixed with new technologies, thus improving the quality of the wines produced, while not forgetting the wisdom of old.

WINES AND PRODUCTION

Vini

In the cellar, modern winemaking and conservation techniques are adopted, with the utmost respect for our tradition and for the quality of the end product. Our goal and pride is to work our grapes with care and delicacy, preserving typical flavors and fragrances.

The average annual production is 400 hectoliters, divided into ten different wine varieties:

  • Dry white wines: Friulano, Chardonnay.
  • Sweet white wines: Verduzzo Friulano, Liende d'aur (uve Picolit).
  • Sparkling Extra dry: Niccolò (Pinot Bianco, Pinot Nero, Chardonnay)
  • Dry red wines: Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Refosco di Faedis, Aurora (Rosato from grapes Merlot and Verduzzo)

THE VINEYARDS

Vigneti

Zani's vineyards cover an area of approximately 6 hectares. The Faedis territory is particularly suited for grape growing, thanks to its soil composed mainly of marl and sandstone of Eocene origin, and also because of its favorable geographic location.
Business strategy starts from the actual fields and trying to produce healthy and good grapes in the first place. Only from such healthy grapes, free from defects and disease, can a great wine be born.
Therefore, all operations are performed with great agricultural and cultural care and attention, especially as regards the fight against plant diseases and pest. The company still works the vineyards in a manual way, from pruning to harvesting, just as it used to be in times past, to express its connection with the history and wine culture of this beautiful area.
"The charm of the late nineteenth century" A "gem" of the company is conducting a typical vineyard of the late nineteenth century (planting year 1895), with the presence of heterogeneous varieties (24 varieties of grapes were counted) and in particular 553 vines of Refosco di Faedis, a jewel among Friulian wines.
From this vineyard come the grapes that will later be made into wine, aged in 10 hectoliters-Slowenian Oak barrels (18 to 24 months), before being bottled as Refosco di Faedis Riserva and marketed on the third year after harvest.

THE CELLAR

Cantina

The winery covers an area of about 350 square meters,
comprises four different areas:

  • one dedicated to the wine-making in Cement and steel casks
  • one dedicated to aging in steel casks and wooden barrels (for the refinement of the Refosco di Faedis)
  • a warehouse, for bottled wine
  • and finally the reception room for customers and wine tasting
